Work and Play at the Beach
Dana Point homes sit at the southern point of the San Joaquin Hills, snug between the sea and San Juan Capistrano. Home to the Dana Point Harbor and the vibrant Lantern District, Dana Point has long been an attractive location for sailing enthusiasts and tourists alike.
Named for the famous nautical writer Richard Henry Dana Jr., Dana Point had its beginnings as a port city near Mission San Juan Capistrano in the mid 1800s. Development began in earnest during the early 1900s, with the harbor as we know it and urban spread solidifying in the mid-century. Many of the original homes in this area have a Spanish influence, but modern construction and luxury investments in the area have yielded a diverse landscape of homes. Many of the most desirable homes are found in the Lantern Streets that made up most of Dana Point’s historical downtown, as well as The Strand which borders the Strand Beach.
Dana Point, much like Newport Beach, is an awesome location for sailors and other water activity enthusiasts. Surfing has a strong following at the beaches here, and lots of local interest goes into the sea life that Doheny State Beach and the harbor mouth support. Schools in Dana Point are also known for their high performance across multiple age groups, which has drawn interest from families and neighboring cities.
